DJ UNEXPECTED - LOOK WHAT I FOUND V1
Diggers Union: We all know that one of the foundations of Hip-Hop is the art of sampling. The way a producer or DJ can take an old breakbeat or soul sample and flip it into a brand new track is pure art. As DJ Shadow once said, “”Cutting and pasting is the essence of what hip-hop culture is all about for me. It’s about drawing from what’s around you, and subverting it and de-contextualizing it.“
Diggers Union founder and my partner-in-crime, DJ Unexpected, has created an entire mixtape series on the art of sampling called Look What I Found. The series, which debuted in 2002, has become a staple in Unexpected’s mixtape career and continues to be sought after by many crate diggers. With Look What I Found 7 currently in the works, Unexpected has decided to let loose the first volume of this timeless series absolutely free. This 99-track mixtape features breaks and samples that have been flipped and recreated by today’s producers, with sections of the mixtape being dedicated to the Notorious BIG, Beatnuts, Dr. Dre, Pete Rock and Wu-Tang Clan. If you are not familiar with this series, I would definitely recommend checking this out.
Enjoy and be educated.
